This year I have tried something new. Square foot gardening.
3 years ago, for my birthday, I went out and bought lumber and dirt and build my own raised garden (4x8) behind my house. I tilled it with a hoe (no tiller) and planted a small garden in long straight rows, the way I have always seen gardens. Got some tomatoes, a bunch of green beans, three cucumbers, and a lot of cherry tomatoes.
This year I am trying square foot gardening. The concept is you can plant alot more in a small area. This year I got lazy and bought plants from Speedway and a few seeds, instead of starting all from seed in a little indoor greenhouse. I bought: Plants- strawberry (4),green pepper (6), beef steak tomatoes(6)
Seeds- cukes, green beans, sugar peas, and my first attempt of bulbs (Red onions). I had gotten carrot seeds in the mail ( a freebie) so I tried them too. (this photo is week one)
Well, it's been two months and it seems like things are going good!!
My strawberries didn't do as they were suppose to- June Strawberries, suppose to get a big harvest in June), I only got about 10 baby strawberries and now the plants are growin' like crazy but no fruit-bummer. I've got some tomatoes growing, some peppers, and alot of peas. My onions and carrots seem OK, but I won't know for awhile. I have added some pictures of my progress. We will see what happens...
